    Glocal Initiatives in Fostering Collaboration in Pedagogical Transformation: Lessons From Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia

    Researchers have long propagated self-directed, lifelong learning as a way forward in grooming human capital. Language learning must transcend beyond the traditional classroom, which uses chalk and talk methods with a heavy reliance on textbooks, towards more flexible, learner-centered methods. The challenge of a lack of suitable teaching materials that are accessible for students outside the classroom can be overcome by using authentic reading materials available online and offline. The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed the digital learning agenda and has changed the way educators think and execute their teaching and assessment. It has certainly changed the way they work, live and communicate in their professional and personal lives. This paper addresses the challenges faced by English as a second language educators teaching during the pandemic and how pedagogical transformations can be done. Using developmental action research, this paper presents The Reader’s Digest story by tracing the history of academic-industry collaborations to enable transformation in teaching and learning through innovations at the tertiary level. Kajian ini berdasarkan mantera dan upacara ritual Puja Pantai, Tolak Bala, Tarian Lukah dan Mandi Berminyak. Bahan yang dikaji terdiri daripada teks mantera, komponen dan unsur atau konteks sosial ritual serta orientasi nilai budaya anggota masyarakat. Mantera dan upacara ritual masih berfungsi dalam masyarakat yang mempunyai hubungkait serta kesan ke atas orientasi nilai budaya masyarakt Melayu Pesisir Timur di Sumatera Utara. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti fungsi mantera ritual dan hubungkait mantera dan upacara ritual dengan nilai-nilai budaya serta mengenal pasti keberkesanannya dalam kehidupan anggota masyarakat. This study is titled " Mantras and Ritual Ceremonies Among the Eastern Coastal Malay Community in North Sumatra: Studies on Functions and Cultural Values". This study is based on the mantras of the Puja Pantai, Tolak Bal, Tarian Lukah and Mandi Berminyak ritual ceremonies. The material examined were mantra texts, components and elements of social ritual contexts as well as orientation of the communities cultural values. Mantras and ritual ceremonies still has its own function in the community that are related to the orientation of cultural values of the eastern coastal Malay community in North Sumatra.     Estimation of fines amount in syariah criminal offences using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) enhanced with analytic hierarchy process (AHP)

    All syariah criminal cases, especially in khalwat offence have their case-fact, and the judges typically look forward to all the facts which were tabulated by the prosecutors. A variety of criteria is considered by the judge to determine the fines amount that should be imposed on an accused who pleads guilty. In Terengganu, there were ten (10) judges, and the judgments were made by the individual decision upon the trial to decide the case. Each judge has a stake, principles and distinctive criteria in determining fines amount on an accused who pleads guilty and convicted. This research paper presents an Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) technique combining with Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for estimating fines amount in Syariah (khalwat) criminal. Datasets were collected under the supervision of registrar and syarie judge in the Department of Syariah Judiciary State Of Terengganu, Malaysia. The results showed that ANFIS+AHP could estimate fines efficiently than the traditional method with a very minimal error

    AN EVALUATION OF THE EARLIEST THOUGHT AND PHILOSOPHY ON MOSQUES IN MALACCA

    Purpose of the study: This study discusses architectural thought and philosophy that focus on traditional mosques in Melaka in the 18th century. Amongst the oldest and most famous mosques in Melaka are the Peringgit Mosque (1720 AD), Kampung Hulu Mosque (1728 AD), Tengkera Mosque (1728 AD) and Kampung Keling Mosque (1748 AD). Methodology: In this study, the qualitative methodology focusing on research was used where the analysis of documents and observations were conducted. Main Findings: The finding of this study revealed that the architectural philosophy shows human relationships with nature are based on the divine concept. The architectural features also illustrate the philosophy of human life and the beauty of the architecture illustrates the height or level of values in individuals. The beauty of the mosque is highlighted through the motifs in the mosque’s decorations which have no contradiction to Islamic values.         Applications of this study: This study involved two historical mosques in Melaka, which are the Tengkera Mosque (1728 AD) and Kampung Hulu Mosque (1728 AD).   Novelty/Originality of this study: These mosques have been directly influenced by the characteristics of Islamic, Chinese and Indian architecture; in the context of building structures, designs and decorations. This study showed that although the Islamic community was influenced by external elements, they were an open-minded community and willing to accept and adapt to such influence

    This study investigates the level of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) adoption within the Public Listed Companies (PLCs) in Malaysia and the influence of Chief Risk Officers (CROs) on ERM practices. Included in this particular study is a comprehensive survey on 500 companies from the main board of public listed companies in the Malaysian Bourse. Key findings of this research work reveal that only 42% of the companies surveyed have completely adopted ERM and based on regression analyses, the ‘quality’ of CROs has a strong influence on the level of ERM adoption within the PLCs involved in the survey

    Is generalized trust related to mistrust of university health care centre?

    Personal characteristics like gender has been shown to be related to people’s attitude towards medical treatment. A negative attitude towards health care provider can be expressed as mistrust. This paper examines the relationship between personal characteristics (generalized trust, sex including whether the person had obtained treatment at a health care centre) and mistrust to a university health care centre. Survey respondents are 420 university students with age ranging from 18 to 29 (M=21.6, SD=1.26). Both types of trusts were similar between the sexes and between students who had and had not visited the health care centre. The finding reveals that generalized trust is not related to mistrust towards healthcare provider. Further studies are needed to establish the extent to which a domain-specific mis-trust has marginal benefits over a generalized trus

    Limited study regarding the factors contribute to counterproductive work behaviour (CWB) has been directed in investigating whether the Big Five Personality are the predictors of counterproductive work behaviour such as organizational constraints, co-worker performance failure and supervisor pressure. More specifically, the researcher examined whether there is relationship between Big Five Personality (i.e. conscientiousness, agreeableness, neuroticism, openness to experience and extraversion) with CWBs. Other than that, Counterproductive work behaviour (CWB) usually consists of explicit acts such as aggression and theft, or conversely, of more subtle and passive actions, such as willingly failing to fulfil tasks, carelessly following instruction, or doing work incorrectly. Generally, these kinds of matter have negative impacts either individually or towards an organization itself because it can be as a limitation of organization to achieve goal oriented purpose. Regarding this issue, personality of an individual can be as elements in this problem. Among of these five traits personality, there are some have the major contributions towards counterproductive work behaviour in the organization.     Family Characteristics and Social Functioning Associated with Duration and Frequency of Child Sexual Assault

    This study reports the sexual abuse of children in Sabah, Malaysia. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between family characteristics and social functioning associated with the duration and frequency of sexual assault on the child survivors. Eighty children who reported sexual assault through a One Stop Crisis Centre in an urban hospital were studied. The main research instrument used was adapted from the Inner Interaction Scale of Social Functioning (IISSF). The results of the study show that there are significant differences in the social functioning of victims according to the frequency of sexual assault, but not according to the duration of assault. That is the social functioning symptoms of achievement and expectation was significantly different according to the frequency of sexual assault. The relationship of the variable’s family characteristics, frequency and duration of sexual assault as well as the social functioning of the victims is important for social workers both to understand and to take note of in intervention work with child sexual assault survivors who report their abuse. The implications of these findings were also discussed in the context of the provision of crisis intervention support for child victims of sexual assault by social workers in Malaysia

    Information Technology (IT) has been extensively used by the Government to support its services to the public across a wide spectrum of government functions. Often, the public is unaware that IT is working ‘behind the scene' to deliver these services. Nevertheless, the public has benefited from increased efficiency in the use of IT, for example, faster renewal of road tax or driving license and greater convenience in paying various utility bills at One-stop Payment Centers. The significance of modern information technology to good governance and public administration is apparent as well. Taking advantage of modern information technology to improve the quality and effectiveness of government’s programs and services has been placed in a premium in many countries. It is believed that services could be delivered more easily and at less cost. In fact, effective and intelligent use of information technology has been an essential component of modern public administration. For that reason, we are try to interview with CEO Perlis State Information Technology Department to get a explanation about organization commitment on IT in Perlis State Secretary. We are also do the survey for 369 respondents of staff in Perlis State Secretary for support the research.
